CHRISTMAS 06 #4: It's our final Christmas show of 2006, and I think you'll agree we saved the best for last! Brand new demented discs mix with some of our most cherished Christmas oldies. "How Did This Thing Get In Me" by Mary & The Magi is the most imaginative and colorful (and, likely, accurate) new version of the original Christmas story I've heard in years. "Santa's EMail From Nigeria" by Dr. Elmo is another dandy new wrinkle. You'll chuckle at two (almost) forgotten 1950s knockoffs of the Chipmunk Song, not to mention Canned Heat's rare 1968 collaboration with the legendary rodents themselves. Actor Dave Coulier's 1980s "Cartoons Christmas" is a rare find. Stan Freberg's "Christmas Dragnet," Cheech & Chong's "Santa Claus and his Old Lady" and Basil Rathbone's radiant reading of "The Night Before Christmas" help to make the season right. Dec 24, 2006

CHRISTMAS, 06 #3:Our seasonal festivities roll on with a hilarious mix of Christmas and Hanukkah songs. Tom Lehrer, Adam Sandler and Gefilte Joe and the Fish light Menorah candles, while "Weird Al" Yankovic, Albert Brooks and Chuck Pickleshimer help Dr. D trim the tree. Holiday spirit and holiday spirits are celebrated and satirized in songs like "The Night Santa Went Crazy" (the extra gory version), "Chipmunks Roasting On An Open Fire" and "I'm Spending Hanukkah In Santa Monica." CHRISTMAS#2 06: It's Week Two of our four week Christmas-Hanukkah blast here at the Dr Demento show...and this week the Christmas legends get twisted every which way but loose...with such crazed carols as "Christmas In The Nude," "Merry Christmas You Suckers," "Kill A Tree For Christ" and "Christmas On Acid" along with such old chestnuts as "All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth," "Christmas Balls" and that eternal favorite, the extra gory version of "The Night Santa Went Crazy" by Weird Al. Plus, as a special treat, the demented ditty from 1998 that may well have inspired the new movie "Deck the Halls." Dec 10, 2006

It's a mixture of weird & wild new demented carols (including one about Christmas on an asteroid, and another in which Christmas gets mixed up with Halloween) and riotous perennials like "Holy S***, It's Christmas" and "Santa's Gonna Kick Your Ass." WINTER 06: Our (more or less) annual salute to Winter is a (yellow) snowball in the face of propriety. From Frank Zappa's colorful twist on the legend of Nanook of the North to Krypton's "Let's Blow Up The Tow Truck," the fun increases as the temperature decreases. First-hour highlights include "No Anchovies Please," "The Biggest Ball Of Twine In Minnesota," "He's His Own Grandpa" and the original recording of "Battle of New Orleans" with the verses that were left off the #1 hit version. Also - the last "normal" (?) Funny Five of 2006 before we begin our Christmas specials. Nov 26, 2006

THANKSGIVING 06: Eat, darling, Eat! Once again it's Thanksgiving time on the Dr Demento show, with a half hour of songs for our most over-nutritious holiday. Adam Sandler, Benny Bell and Stan Freberg are among those presenting comedic toasts this time around. Other highlights include "Lydia, the Tattooed Lady" by Groucho Marx, a rare Mel Blanc track, and Eric Schwartz's trenchant tribute to our past and present Presidents, "Clinton Got a B***job". WHERE I LIVE: Some songwriters write about love. Others write about food, war, trains, or how miserable they are. And then there are those who write about the places they live in. On this show we'll hear songs about cities big and small, from singers like Tom Lehrer, Emo Philips and "Weird Al" Yankovic (on his very first record release, a song about San Luis Obispo, CA.) Other highlights include songs about food (why not), sexual abstinence, blogging and human taxidermy. Nov 12, 2006

Always one of our most popular topics, featuring "The Second Week of Deer Camp," "Morris the Moose" and "Da Turdy Point Buck." We'll also have a demented salute to the election (with "The One That Doesn't Suck So Bad" and "The Liar Sleeps Tonight"), an Australian salute to Arnold Schwarzenegger, and "Monster Hash" as it might (not) be sung by Bush and Chaney. TOTAL NONSENSE: This week a half hour of absolute nonsense. Total nonsense. Hardcore nonsense. Some might say our show is always that way, but with "The Ying Tong Song," "Ugga Ugga Boo Ugga Boo Boo Ugga," "Mairzy Doats" and "You Know My Name (Look Up The Number)," we definitely achieve nonsense nirvana this week. We'll also salute the 1960s novelty songwriter who recently got to read his own obituary in the papers, and hear the best of Backus back to back. Oct 15, 2006

FATHER'S DAY:Happy Father's Day from Dr. Demento! Father's Day humor tends to be somewhat less respectful than what you might hear on Mother's Day..."When The Mush Begins To Rush Down Father's Vest," for instance, or Brian Wilson's ode to his father Murry, "I'm Bugged At My Old Man." We'll also hear Shel Silverstein's "Father Of A Boy Named Sue," and a song that gets right down to the heart of fatherhood, "I'm Gonna Procreate" by Worm Quartet. We'll also hear, among many others, Stan Freberg's very first hit record, "John and Marsha," and that Odd Couple Tony Randall and Jack Klugman singing "When Banana Skins Are Falling, I'll Come Sliding Back To You."
